At Bright Spark Electrical Services we install predominately Varilight V-PRO Dimmer Switches, because we trust them, although there are other brands on the market we have many years of experience installing them, and the issues which can occur by "Operator Error".
These errors occur often when people have had some new dimmer switches installed, or worse still their children have been playing around with the dimmer switches - switching them on and off in play.
Examples of this can be:
With the electronic dimmers because of the low wattages of the lights and lamps, we all like to save money by installing low energy Light bulbs (Lamps), and also from Government intervention where the regular lamps we have been using, along with the Halogen Lamps, have been stopped being sold, to ensure that only Low energy Lamps are used.
With Led Lamps, along with the use of LED Dimmers, people using the lights get impatient with the lights not coming on as fast as the old halogen type, and hit the switch, then realise they have turned it off, and then they hit it on, and the light comes on, but not fast enough, so it is hit off, and then realise the light has been turned off, so it is hit back on again.
Literally, a few seconds, turns the switch into programming mode, so the lights flash, in various patterns, even just by twiddling the knob, this can make the dimmer react in a way that you have not planned. So the switch is hit off, the lights either flicker, stay constantly Dim and only move up to a slightly brighter level of Dim! The opposite occurs they can stay Bright, or really bright.
Customers often ask us to replace the dimmer switch because it came faulty, or they want to swap out the switch to a normal switch.
Its quite simple - but the instructions supplied with the dimmers are small to read, it is a matter of switching the lights off and on a number of times, and then twisting the knob at certain times, and hitting the switch a couple of times - there are a different number of hits, for different functions, including the lights going really dim, and really bright.
Varilight V-PRO dimmers can be programmed to your light settings and are a very versatile design to meet this requirement.
Varilight V-Pro dimmers will run default in trailing-edge mode (MODE 1). This mode is suitable for all lighting types including many dimmable LED lamps. Leading-edge mode is also calmer by the load. A new trailing edge mode may enhance the performance of some dimmable LED light bulbs and dimmable CFL lights.
Regularly, we receive calls from our customers regarding their Dimmer switches, we are often sending out a Bright Spark Electrician to reprogram a dimmer switch when the reprogramming can be carried out by a customer.

Reprogramming a dimmer switch can be done in a matter of minutes, you do not have to complete the re-programming every time.
It is only necessary to follow the instructions when you change dimmer modes or add a dimmable LED lamp to your installation.

Thank you for attending my “Emergency Call out” there was smoke coming out of my socket.
